I know we have a couple of Southend United fans on board. I think Woody and Dan Duboux are two of them, and very excited they will be today after the Shrimpers extra time win over Stevenage last night.
The hero of the hour was Michael Timlin, whose sickening clash of heads with Stevenage’s Bira Dembele overshadowed Sunday’s 1-1 first-leg draw, and if you saw the footage it truly was horrific.
Anyway, with a skull cap on Timlin fittingly scored the extra-time goal which secured a 3-1 win and a place in the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final against Wycombe Wanders later in the month.
Timlin was not expected to start after needing stitches in a gaping wound above his eye nut he played the full 120 minutes and rounded off a courageous display by racing through to wrap up the victory.
Shrimpers boss Brown said: “For Michael Timlin to get that goal…dear me! It emphasised the commitment that was shown to try to win the game. We never do things easy at this place – it doesn’t seem that way anyway.”
Great story and good luck to the Shrimpers in the final.
